Goodbye, New York

Generally, the “we’re leaving New York” post is some long, drawn-out affair.

All I’ll say is, when in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one couple to dissolve the bands of good bagels and good pizza that bind them and embrace the Laws of Economics which dictate that all are created equal but gentrification is no joke and some of that couple may have careers where one person thinks it might be interesting to go work for the federal government and so their wife is like, “I love you and support you, so let’s go for it.” and the first person is like, “I love you too. OK, yes. Let’s see how this goes.” and you wake up one morning and you’re looking for apartments outside of D.C. and it’s bittersweet because so much of what one couple loves is right here where they are, but as Roosevelt said, “This isn’t the only door where you can hang a hat. Just build your own hat rack and your hat can hang wherever you like.” and that quote has always really spoke to me because I just spoke it out loud here in this laundromat as I wrote it and, by God, if this is the last time I ever have to use a laundromat it will not be in vain. That laundry by the people, of the people, and for the people shall not perish from this Earth. I guess what I’m trying to say is, I love my wife and if I owe you money now would be a good time to remind me. If you owe me money, now would be a good time to run. God bless you all, and God bless the NY metro area.
